The initial effects will show in the first 2-5 days and continue to improve for 2 weeks. Fine lines that do not disappear in the first 2 weeks will often continue to soften over the coming months. Those that don’t, can often be improved with dermal filler.

The effects normally last 3-6 months (may vary from person to person), however the duration of the benefits increase with time, so that injections are required infrequently in the future.

Aftercare is important following any anti-wrinkle treatment. You may or may not experience swelling and/or redness which will subside during the next few hours following the procedure.

• Remain upright for 2 hours.
• Use/move the muscles that have been treated more often for the first hour.
• Do not apply make up for approximately 6 hours unless it is mineral based.
• When cleansing, avoid pressure and use gentle strokes away from the eyes.
• Avoid wearing tight caps or garments in the area that has been injected.
• For 48 hours you should avoid alcohol and exposure to UV and extreme heat i.e. sauna, steam, sun beds, very hot showers, strenuous exercise etc., as this may increase discomfort and swelling.

Wrinkles and facial lines result from ageing, muscle activity and your genetic predisposition. In addition, excessive sun exposure, alcohol consumption, hormonal influences and smoking can also increase the likelihood of wrinkles. Whilst you may be able to reduce or control some of the factors, you cannot influence all factors and that’s why we all develop some wrinkles as we age.

Aesthetics can offer professional treatments, such as Botox® to reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. Dr Kayleigh has knowledge of head and neck anatomy and with training in the use of cosmetic treatments, can subtly enhance your appearance to make you look younger and fresher.

Botulinum is a substance that is produced by a bacteria; it is then highly refined, purified, diluted and used in therapeutic doses. Botulinum is administered by injecting it into a specific facial muscle where it acts as a muscle relaxant.

Anyone can benefit from botulin injections, both men and women. Botox® is most effective in improving lines or wrinkles due to facial expressions; for example, worry lines or frown lines on the forehead and between the eyebrows.  You should not have treatment with Botox® if you are pregnant, breast-feeding, have a neuro- logical disease or a known hypersensitivity to it.

In most cases the treatment will take between 10 and 20 minutes. Effects will begin to appear very quickly within 48 hours to 72 hours, although the full extent of the treatment may not be visible for up to 10 days. Approximately two weeks after the first treatment, the effects will be reviewed with Dr Kayleigh and any further treatments or top-ups can be discussed.
